Egos Will Clash To Save The Queen
by Joe Mari Mercader
                02/05/2009  05:25 AM ET
Trivia: As an avid fan I taped all the fights of my idol Manny Pacquiao. I
have been re-watching his extremely riveting fight of last December 6, in
which he bludgeoned Oscar de la Hoya’s face into a mash-potato and
made his left eye look irresistibly delicious to Arabs who love to eat
goat eyes. But what boxing announcer Jim Lampley at one point said,
was absolutely politically incorrect - that Manny is going to be our
president some day.

Baselines Bill Does Not Promote Philippine Interests
By: Ambassador Lauro L. Baja
                 02/05/2009  05:25 AM ET
The Philippine Baselines Bill which excludes Kalayaan and Scarborough
Shoal from our baselines does not protect nor promote our national
interests. Kalayaan is already ours by virtue of our laws, and we have
military and civilian units there.

CEOs Riding the crest of the "Reagan Revolution," the corporate Chief
Executive Officers (CEOs) reached the pinnacle of power in the

“THE FILIPINO SPIRIT IN THE REMAKING OF AMERICA”
WASHINGTON, D.C., Feb. 11 (PinoyGlobal) - Today, we celebrate our misa
ng bayan with great hopes for brighter days of economic and moral
recovery and renewal under our new President Barack Obama.  It is
certainly heartening and uplifting to know that we have a lot to hope and
be thankful for after this nation demonstrated great courage by electing
the first black, indeed, the first colored man in history, to the presidency.
It brings much satisfaction after periods of intense crises and conflicts
under the Bush administration, remembering 9/11, the Iraq and
Afghanistan wars and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and the economic
meltdown that continues to wreck havoc on us and especially  the
common workers not only in the United States but all over the globe.
After passing through the bleakest of days we earnestly hope to see
light.

House Resolution 737: Trojan Horse
by Joe Mari Mercader
              02/12/2009  04:20 AM ET
NEW YORK, N.Y., Feb. 13 (PinoyGlobal) - It is my gut feeling that House
Resolution 737, which was hurriedly approved by the Committee on
constitutional amendments last week, is sugarcoated nomenclature for
that unpopular, unacceptable and detestable Charter change (Cha cha)!
Bluntly speaking, our people don’t relish hearing about it. They may be in
the mood to alter the 1987 fundamental law after the lame duck Arroyo
administration exits next year. Even that is no guarantee because
the Constitution is barely 30 years old.

NEW YORK, N.Y., Feb. 17 (PinoyGlobal) - -St. John’s Hospita l is closing on
Feb. 28, 2009. To say the least, this is painful for more than a thousand
employees who will be losing their jobs. A lot of Filipinos are employed in
this hospital - as well as at Mary Immaculate, which is also said to be
closing. Some are husbands and wives working together. There are
those who worked in the hospital for as long as 20-30 years. I know
how these employees feel because I experienced unemployment as well
when the Parkway Hospital closed due to financial difficulties.

Gloria's Stimulating Gimmickry
                         02/17/2009  06:01 AM ET
SACRAMENTO, CALIF., Feb.17 (PinoyGlobal) - Last February 13, 2009, the
think tank IBON Foundation posted on its website an article titled "Gov't
'Stimulus Plan' A Mere Spin." IBON implied that the much ballyhooed
stimulus plan of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo is a "mere public
relations gimmickry to create the impression that something is being
done to address the crisis." According to IBON, "part of the reported
P330-billion stimulus plan includes the P160-billion increase in the 2009
national budget, the P100-billion off-budget infrastructure fund, the
P40-billion corporate/individual tax breaks, so-called alternative livelihood
programs, etc."

The Czarina and the Priest
                        02/25/2009  07:17 AM ET
SACRAMENTO, CALIF. Feb. 23 (PinoyGlobal) - A battle royal is looming in
the land of Cong Dadong Macapagal between his daughter, President --
and antidrug “Czarina” -- Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and Gov. Fr. Ed Panlilio
of Pampanga. With all the government and political resources at her
disposal, the Czarina has come down furiously at the priest-turned-
governor through a series of Machiavellian strategies. But the priest is
fighting back like David did to the mighty Goliath.

Ominous Scheme
by Joe Mari Mercader

NEW YORK, N.Y., Feb. 22 (PinoyGlobal) - If the rumored scenario allegedly
being crafted by the First Gentleman and former Ambassador Danding
Cojuangco is not a ploy to dispel the suspicion that Pres. Arroyo is
implacably obsessed with power and will go to extremes to perpetuate
as president, then possibly she might yet step down in 2010, to the
great relief of our sick nation.

Reconcile With The Nation Not Individuals, Madam
President
by Joe Mari Mercader
          02/25/2009  09:27 PM ET
NEW YORK, N.Y., (PinoyGlobal) - Last week, President Gloria Arroyo
publicly announced her desire to reconcile with former presidents Cory
Aquino and Joseph “Erap” Estrada. The 64-dollar question is - what
for? Unless the public is unaware that she is smarting with some degree
of guilt for having hurt them, then there is absolutely no reason for her
to sue for peace with the two.

Philippines Is The Next Tiger Of Asia
                        02/27/2009  07:37 PM ET
NEW YORK, N.Y., Feb. 28 (PinoyGlobal) - As expats our love for country
and countrymen is clearly shown by the $18 billion in remittances we
send back home yearly. Nothing can be clearer than that. Therefore we
get frustrated when we see our leaders being investigated left and right
and nothing happens. It’s like our effort and sacrifices have gone to the
drain because of our present leaders. All we hear are about schemes,
scams, deals, corruption and anomalous transactions. They come in the
form of fertilzer scams, ZTE deal, Joc Joc Bolante, Pidal, Diosdado
Macapagal Highway, GSIS and SSS scams and so on. When will this bad
news ever stop?
