Madam, Read My Lips, Prioritize Foreign Debt Payment Not

by Joe Mari Mercader
                 03/04/2009  12:57 AM ET
NEW YORK, N.Y., March 05 (PinoyGlobal) - Before attending the Asean
Leaders Summit in Thailand recently, Pres. Arroyo unabashedly bragged
that the Philippines “under her able fiscal management is among the few
to have escaped, thus far, a global recession epidemic.” What is wrong
with her is she undergoing a midlife crisis or just blind not to see the
brain drain of Filipinos (Diaspora) that has already become a national
embarrassment?

He Who Does Not Learn From The Past Is Bound To
Repeat The Stupidity
by Joe Mari Mercader
                   03/06/2009  7:57 PM ET
NEW YORK, N.Y., March 07 (PinoyGlobal) - 2010 is just a breath away and
soon all sorts of characters will be clawing each other to be in the
electoral derby. We just hope that the authority that vests power to
aspir ants for public office, the electorate, will be prudent this time
not to repeat the horrible error they made in the past of electing
nincompoops, clowns and idiots, not discounting scalawags.
Opportunities like elections do not come everyday.

Is Richard Gordon running for President?

03/06/2009  8:57 PM ET
MANILA, March 07 (PinoyGlobal) - It's a question that would cross your
mind when you surf the Net and find forums initiated by apparent fans
seeking to convince others to join the Gordon for President bandwagon.
There are several blogs devoted to the same cause, one called Team
Gordon 2010, all enumerating the reasons why he should be entrusted
with the country's leadership after President Goria Macapagal-Arroyo
steps down next year.

Victory, at last!

03/06/2009  9:00 PM ET
WITH one bold and historic stroke of his pen, President Barrack Obama
corrected many decades of neglect and humiliation for our dying
Filipino WWII veterans. The multibillion-dollar economic stimulus bill to
revive the ailing U.S. economy includes lump-sum appropriation of $198
million for 18,000 surviving Filipino heroes of WWII in the U.S. and in the
Philippines, out of more than 200,000 Filipino soldiers who were
conscripted to serve in the war, most of whom have already died.

If To Do Were As Easy As To Know
by Joe Mari Mercader
                  03/12/2009  7:57 PM ET
NEW YORK, N.Y., March 12 (PinoyGlobal) - The Bard of Avon, William
Shakespeare, rhetorically stated centuries ago, “If to do were as easy as
to know….”. Indeed, his classic words would make a well of difference
if aspiring politicians knew that their incongruity to the government
position they seek excels their capricious desire. For sure, things would
definitely be much brighter. People would be relieved to elect only the
crème de la crème academes, not any of the certifiable wallflowers raring
to join the marathon in the election next year.

Mercy or No Mercy?
                                03/12/2009  07:17 PM ET
SACRAMENTO, CALIF., March 12 (PinoyGlobal) - In an act of defiance,
Ombudsman Maria Merceditas “Mercy” Gutierrez arrogantly declared, “I
have my mandate,I have my term and I believe this is my duty, my
service to our countrymen.” With “my” repeated four times in one
sentence, one would wonder if she really cared much about what her
“mandate” was all about.

STEPPING DOWN IS HER ONLY WAY OUT NOW
                 03/21/2009  12:26 AM ET
NEW YORK, N.Y., March 20 (PinoyGlobal) -Fourteen months is a tight time
constraint for Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo (GMA) to pull a rabbit from
the top hat. Her own protégés and lapdogs have already sealed the
demise of her presidency (part two). Their vying alone against each
other for her job puts GMA in estoppels to stage a coup to replace
herself. No way can she now rush passage of the unsavory Charter
change (Cha cha) that should breathe life into her moribund days in the
high seat of President. It seems like only yesterday when her conjugal
dictatorship with then Speaker Joe de Venecia (JDV) was in bloom.

LET US PRIORITIZE OUR EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM
                                03/22/2009  0P:37 PM ET
NEW YORK, N.Y., March 22 (PinoyGlobal) - To achieve maximum benefits
for our country in terms of financial enhancement, let us exploit to the hilt
our dormant asset personified by our teachers and make them pillars of
the country, which they are but who are not recognized for their actual
worth.  By this, I mean for the government to take care of our teachers
who have been neglected all these years, despite their never-ending
sacrifices. A strong force of great teachers makes a strong educational
system.

NEW YORK, N.Y., March 24 (PinoyGlobal) - The O.A. (overacting) concern
of public officials to Pres. Arroyo’s mercurial outbursts when something
goes wrong in their sphere of responsibility makes one feel like throwing
up. We know damn well they are numb even to exposes about their
wanton larcenous shenanigans, why should they be unsettled with the
puny ire of a lame-duck president who may not even be around long
enough to punish them?

BANKERS HAVE GONE BONKERS
                               03/25/2009  11:17 PM PDT
SACRAMENTO, CALIF., March 25 (PinoyGlobal) - In the past several
months, amidst the financial meltdown, a lot of people have wondered,
“are bankers going bonkers?” With the passage of the $700-billion
Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) and President Obama’s signing of
the $787-billion economic stimulus package, the bankers have gone
bonkers, not for lack of money but for having too much money in their
pockets. Indeed, the government bailout has created a “windfall” for the
banks that they can use any which way they want.

WILL THERE BE A CHARTER CHANGE?
                                      03/27/2009  10:18 PM PHT
MANILA, March 27(PinoyGlobal) - In November last year, then Press
Secretary Jesus Dureza said in his opening prayers at a Cabinet meeting
that he hoped President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo would have the
strength to finish her term in 2010 and perhaps serve even longer.  Mrs.
Arroyo was visibly irked by the remark, which Dureza clarified was just a
joke, but the scene was enough to add fuel to long-simmering suspicions
that the Arroyo administration would stop at nothing for a last shot to
amend the 1987 Charter–and thereby lift term limits to allow Mrs. Arroyo
to prolong her stay in power.

ERAP'S PRIVATE ARMY
                                    03/27/2009  05:32 PM PDT
San Francisco, California, March 27(PinoyGlobal) - AFTER Joseph "Erap"
Estrada was elected president in 1998, he stopped his predecessor's six-
year campaign to disband the 560 "private armies" that had proliferated
all over the Philippines. Instead, Estrada added one more “private army”
to the list - but one that was crafted from within the ranks of the
Philippine military establishment, an elite unit that would go after his
political enemies and engage in “black operations.”

popular “Balikbayan” box our compatriots use to send their loved ones in

packed inside these plain looking boxes that travel by sea, air and land
in containers. The practice has turned into a virtual culture that come in

IT'S NOW OR NEVER

NEW YORK, N.Y., March 31 (PinoyGlobal) -  If what we hear back home is
true – that 150 congressmen already signed Rep. Luis Villafuerte’s
resolution calling for a constituent assembly (con-ass) to amend the
Constitution - then I too have been duped by the body language of
Madam Arroyo (that she was stepping down after the 2010 elections),
which only proves that to err is human.
