Why Chiz has not yet made an announcement
10/21/2009 5:34 PM EDT
Washington, DC, Oct 21, 2009 (Pinoy Global) - It has been nine days since
Oct. 10, when Sen. Chiz Escudero turned 40 and thus eligible to be
president of the Philippines. He had promised to officially announce his
presidential candidacy on that day, but the day came and went and no
announcement. The date for the formal announcement has been
postponed to Oct. 12, they said. That day came and still no announcement.
The new rumor is that he would do it on Monday.

WHAT AN IDEAL PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE SHOULD BE
10/02/2009 2:37 AM EDT
NEW YORK, NY October 2 (PinoyGlobal) - During the time of the late Pres.
Marcos the people united to elect a simple housewife to lead the country.
This was the people’s referendum against the dictatorial regime. I was
there when Corazon Aquino declared civil disobedience against the
government of Marcos at Luneta Park attended by three million people. I
was there during the EDSA revolution facing the military tanks and tear
gas. I was there during the elections guarding the ballots for Cory Aquino,
watching closely where it goes to be sure it will not be lose in transit.

Sagip Tulong Sa Pilipinas: Typhoon Ondoy Relief efforts
MANILA, PHILIPPINES Oct 2 (PinoyGlobal) - As many of you know already,
and the media has circulated, Typhoon Ondoy (Ketsana) has submerge
major parts of the Philippines. At this point, estimates from varying sources
are 140 people have been killed, several thousand are still missing and
hundreds of thousands have been displaced. News reports state that this
is the worst rainfall the country has seen in 40 years. The Philippine Daily
Inquirer reported that Ondoy's total rainfall was 410mm, while Hurricane
Katrina's was 380mm in New Orleans. Lack of an early warning system, and
the low-levels of governmental support and action, are all issues that
Americans can relate too.

KUDOS TO NONOY'S ULTIMATUM
10/02/2009 08:20 PM EDT
NEW YORK, NY Oct. 2 (PinoyGlobal) - Not many people, for that matter,
even publishers, writers and so-called concerned citizens would challenge
the powers-that-be to do the right thing when all around is death,
suffering and disaster plaguing the nation. Complacency is usually the last
refuge of a scoundrel who is afraid to shake the foundation of his
comfortable life by calling on powerful people to listen to the cry of the
poor masses to rescue them from their wretched condition caused by the
unbridled wrath of Mother Nature – tropical storm “Ondoy.”

IMMIGRATION LESSONS FROM U.S. TO INDONESIA
What is the Win-Win Formula for host Country and
Immigrant
10/02/2009 08:27 PM EDT
WASHINGTON, D.C. Oct. 2 (PinoyGlobal) - The United States should really
handle its immigration laws and policies with great care. The world is
watching and as a matter of fact, is copying. Those were my exact
thoughts, as I sat in my Washington, D.C. Office one sweltering August
day while being interviewed by an Indonesian Immigration Official, (whose
name must remain anonymous). Through an interpreter, the official asked
me questions, particularly on my perspective as a practitioner of U.S.
immigration laws.

“DUAL CITIZENSHIP LAWS… GOLDEN PARACHUTE FOR THE

WILLARD LOBBY AT PRES. GMA’S VISIT)
10/02/2009 08:17 PM EDT
WASHINGTON, D.C. Oct. 2 (PinoyGlobal) - It was a drizzly, muggy night in
Washington, D.C., on July 29, 2009. What were Filipino-Americans (Fil-Ams)
doing at the Willard.. .yes… the expensive Willard Hotel, in the sweltering
summer, during a very low point of the economic recession, when
unemployment rate was at a high of 9. 4 percent? What were they up to
at the Willard? The answer to the question is apparently esoteric, and a
sign of the times, making it an appropriate debut topic for this column.

Last Saturday (Sunday in the U.S.), the greater Metro Manila region and 27
neighboring provinces which span a total of approximately 1,200 square
miles were hit by a devastating typhoon which submerged 80% of the
region in waist-deep (20 feet deep in some areas) flood waters. According
to authorities, the deluge lasted for 24 hours and because the destruction
is so widespread, the situation is about 20 times worse than the one
wrought by hurricane Katrina in New Orleans a few years ago.

Resign, Sec. Romulo: Betrayal Is Ingratitude Per Se
10/07/2009 04:20 AM EDT
NEW YORK, NY Oct. 7 (PinoyGlobal) - Before discussing the main issue, I
would first like to share this observation with our faithful readers for their
evaluation. Indeed, it is a truism that during calamities the good and evil of
man invariably comes out ratifying the adage that man is wolf to man. Take
the policemen w ho distributed government aid to the flood victims of
tropical storm Ketsana or Ondoy, they were seen in the open shamelessly
asking for P30 from each victim to whom they handed out food supplies.

Prayer For Fellow Filipinos
10/07/2009 9:23 PM EDT
Dear God,
I pray for fellow Filipinos, whose lives suffered the wrath of the last
typhoon. Please grant us courage, to face the long road to recovery;
give us enough grace, to accept Your will despite our huge losses;
sustain us with Your love that will protect us from further harm;
and guide us, that the way to You remains, despite the sadness and
desperation that surround us. This disaster destroyed our possessions;
took so many precious lives; and has now created a serious challenge
for my home country to overcome...
but nothing can ever take away, nor ever destroy, our FAITH.
Where there is faith...there is hope.
We entrust ourselves into Your Hands, Lord.
Amen.

Assembly that we talked about our theme for 2010. It is a very rich theme,
and will take a lifetime to appreciate more fully. It is about the majesty of
God, about redemptive suffering, about being awed and humbled in His
presence. It seems God is not wasting time in getting us on our learning
track. Last Saturday we experienced the devastating rains and flood. Many
lives were lost, many homes and material possessions were lost, and many
experienced pain and grief due to separation from loved ones, hunger and
thirst, and uncertainty about the future.

Villar: Secret Card Of GMA

NEW YORK, NY Oct. 13 (PinoyGlobal) - In the welter of the confused state
of the nation caused by typhoon Ondoy that wreaked untold havoc in the
country, I heard from friends who just came back from the Philippines that
Sen. Manny Villar Jr. has arrived at a secret arrangement with the lame-

hearing this I could not help visualizing a scenario of Madam Arroyo’s
emissaries and those of Sen. Villar, engrossed in plotting to make the
scheme come out with positive results for them after the polls.

Ruth 1:16 From the prayer desk of Rev. Deacon Gary
Ruth has long been a favorite of Bible readers because of its powerful story
of fidelity and trust. Its location in the Christian canon, between Judges and
1 Samuel, is probably a function of 4:16-22.
The following facts are noteworthy to remember:
1) The story demonstrates a remarkable bond between women confronting
tragic circumstances.
2) It shows the fidelity of a Moabite woman (Ruth) to her widowed Israelite
mother-in-law.
3) It illustrate that the community of Israel offers a welcoming embrace to
outsiders.(1:16-17)
4) It is the story that reminds us always to value fidelity to family and God,
even during times of great personal duress.

property.

relatives and at the town gate he cleverly presented his case to his older
brother. First he brought in new information not yet mentioned in the

the area that was now for sale. As the nearest relative, this man had the
first right to buy the land, which he agreed to do. But then Boaz said that
according to the law, if the relative bought the property he also had to
marry the widow of Elimelech's son (Ruth), who has the right to inherit the
property.
